Although honey is one of the most important products of the bee, yet it is not the only product. Honey wax, propolis, nectar, bee toxicant are cases in point of other products that proved by experimental science to be of medical benefits.
Honey has more than 80 materials of sugar vitamins and 15 materials of sugars, particularly fructose, glucose, minerals, amino acids and about 5% of unclassified materials. “containing healing for mankind” is an explicit verse indicating that honey is a treatment as well as a nutrient.
Benefits of honey:
Alleviating inflammation of cornea if used locally on the eye.
An antibiotic if used locally in situ of wounds and burns, and it is used for healing of wounds :
- When used in treatment of wounds, thanks to its ability to absorb moisture from the air, honey facilitates healing process and prevents scarring. This is because honey stimulates the growth of epithelial cells that form the new skin cover over a healed wound. In this way, even in case of large wounds, honey may eliminate the need for tissue transplantation.
- Honey stimulates the re-growth of tissue involved in the healing process. It stimulates the formation of new blood capillaries and the growth of fibroblasts that replace the connective tissue of the deeper layer of the skin and produce the collagen fibres that give strength to the repair.
- Honey has an anti-inflammatory action, which reduces the swelling around a wound. This improves circulation and thus hastens the healing process. It also reduces pain.
- Honey does not stick to the underlying wound tissues, so there is no tearing away of newly formed tissue, and no pain, when dressings are changed.
-Thanks to its aforementioned antimicrobial property, honey provides a protective barrier to prevent wounds becoming infected. It also rapidly clears any existing infection from wounds. It is fully effective, even with antibiotic-resistant strains of bacteria. Unlike antiseptics and antibiotics, there is no impairment of the healing process through adverse effects on wound tissues.
- Some studies showed that honey is a good treatment against the hospital infection bacteria "superbugs" (MRSA) . As honey does not accommodate bacteria, this bactericide (bacteria-killing) property of honey is named "the inhibition effect." There are various reasons of this anti-microbial property of the honey. Some examples are: the high sugar content that limits the amount of water microorganisms need for growth, its high acidity (low pH) and composition which deprive bacteria from nitrogen necessary for reproduction. The existence of hydrogen peroxide as well as antioxidants in the honey prevent bacteria growth.
Antioxidant: Everyone who wants to live a healthier life should consume antioxidants. Those are the components in cells that get rid of harmful byproducts of normal metabolic functions. These elements inhibit destructive chemical reactions that cause spoilage of food and many chronic illnesses. Many researches have been done to look at the benefits of natural honey .. ! It was narrated by Al Bukhari and Moslem on the authority of Abu Saeed Al Khudari that A man came to the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) and said, "My brother has some abdominal trouble." The Prophet said to him "Let him drink honey." The man returned to the prophet and said: “O Messenger of Allah! I let him drink honey, but it caused him more pain.” The prophet said to him; “Go and let him drink honey”. The man went and let his brother drink honey, then returned back and said; “O Messenger of Allah, it did not cause him except more pains.” The Prophet then said, "Allah has said the truth, but your brother's abdomen has told a lie. Let him drink honey." So he made him drink honey and he was cured.
It can easily be seen from this information that honey has great "healing" properties. This is undoubtedly one of the miracles of the Quran Allah, Who is Exalted in Power, has revealed.
Another interesting point regarding the female honey bee , Allah (SWT) says in the holy Quran :

In the honey bee colonies where each of the many bees is assigned a specific task, the only exception is the male honey bee. The males do not contribute to the defence of the hive or its cleaning, gathering food, or making the honeycomb and honey. The only function of the male bees in the hive is to inseminate the queen bee. Apart from reproductive organs, the males possess almost none of the features possessed by other bees and it is therefore impossible for them to do anything but fertilise the queen.
The worker bees carry the entire load of the colony. Although they are females like the queen, their ovaries have no maturity. This renders them sterile. They have several duties: cleaning the hive, maintaining the larvae and the young, feeding the queen bee and the males, producing honey, constructing the honeycomb and repairing it, ventilating the hive and safeguarding it, gathering supplies like nectar, pollen, water and resin, and storing these in the hive.
In Arabic, there are two different usages of verbs. By means of the usage, it is possible to determine whether the subject is a female or a male. As a matter of fact, the translated verbs into English (underlined words) used for the honey bee are used in the feminine verb format in the Quranic verses.
Based on this, the Quran indicates that the honey bees that work in the making of the honey are females.
We should not forget that it is impossible for this fact to have been known about the honey bees in the time of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Yet, Allah has pointed at this fact and shown us yet another miracle of the Quran.
  Barli atau nama botaninya Hordeum Vulgarie dikatakan bijirin pertama yang telah ditanam di timur tengah kira-kira 9000 tahun dan mungkin juga merupakan bijirin terawal dan paling penting pada ketika itu. Isi rong atau bijirin barli boleh dijadikan tepung, emping dan bran. Batangnya boleh dijadikan kertas dan bahan pembinan manakala keseluruhan tanaman boleh dijadiikan sebagai makanan haiwan ternakan.
Pokok barli tergolong dalam keluarga Gramineae dan menyerupai pokok gandum yang banyak ditanam di negara-negara Barat. Barli ditanam daripada biji sehinggalah ia menjadi pokok yang tinnginya kira-kira satu meter.
Bijirin barli merupakan sumber terbaik serat pemakanan, protein dan karbohidrat kompleks serta vitamin dan galian. Terdapat dua jenis serat pemakanan iaitu mudah dilarutkan dan tidak mudah dilarutkan. Barli mempunyai kedua-dua jenis serat ini dan merupakan sumber terbaik serat yang mudah dilarut. Kajian klinikal di Australia, Kanada dan amerika Syarikat melaporkan bahawa serat daripada barli efektif dalam merendahkan kolesterol dalam darah. Bijirin barli pula bertindak sebagai penghadam, pelega dan dikatakan sesuai dimakan sebagai makanan berkhasiat atau dijadikan air barli ( rebusan air barli dalam air ) Biji barli juga digunakan sebagai ramuan tampal untuk luka dan luka akibat terbakar. Bijirin barli juga dikatakan boleh membantu dalam menghilangkan berat badan kerana ia bertindak sebagai penahan selera makan.   MUNGKIN kerana kedudukannya yang paling bawah, ia adalah anggota tubuh terakhir atau langsung tidak mendapat perhatian sebahagian besar daripada kita. Tetapi, kita terlupa. Pada bahagian paling bawah inilah, dilengkapi dengan kejuruteraan berstruktur yang amat menakjubkan - kaki. Tugas dan tanggungjawabnya juga bukan calang-calang. Seluruh `berat badan' dibebankan kepadanya. Ia juga umpama `kenderaan' paling selamat yang membawa kita ke mana saja. Sebab itulah, ada pendapat yang mengatakan, jika kaki anda sihat, maka kesihatan tubuh secara keseluruhan juga terjamin. Malangnya, berapa ramai yang mengambil berat tentang kesihatan kaki, seperti kita `menjaga' lain-lain anggota tubuh? Sebaliknya, saban hari, kita telah dan terus `menindas' kaki dengan banyak cara. Antaranya, menyarung kaki dengan kasut yang tidak begitu sesuai, berdiri berjam-jam dan sebagainya. "Lama-kelamaan, jika keadaan ini dibiarkan, kaki akan mengalami tekanan berlebihan." "Kesannya, ia boleh menjejaskan kesihatan tubuh secara keseluruhan seperti sakit leher, lutut dan belakang," kata Pakar Runding Podiatri, Pusat Penjagaan Kesihatan Komplementari Datuk Paduka Saleha, Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Dr. Mark Reyneker. Menurut beliau, sebilangan besar kesakitan yang dirasai pada anggota tubuh tersebut berpunca daripada fungsi kaki yang terjejas. Bagaimanapun, berita baiknya, ia ada penawar. Tetapi, tidak ramai yang benar-benar faham atau ambil peduli apabila fungsi kaki mereka terjejas. "Sebab itulah, mereka terus memilih untuk hidup dalam ketidakselesaan atau membiarkan diri dalam kesakitan," katanya ketika ditemui selepas majlis pelancaran butik kasut terkemuka, di sebuah pusat membeli-belah baru-baru ini. Menurut Reyneker, sebilangan orang tidak menghidap penyakit yang serius, tetapi mereka berasa tidak selesa setiap kali berjalan atau berdiri terlalu lama. Malah, pada masa yang sama, tidak kurang yang merungut kerana gagal mendapat kasut yang sesuai dengan pelbagai alasan. Sehubungan itu, selain rawatan perubatan, hanya kasut yang dilengkapi dengan alat sokongan dan kusyen yang sesuai dapat membantu merawat masalah kaki.
ANTARA JENIS MASALAH KAKI:
- Rengsa pada otot-otot labu betis kaki Individu yang menderita masalah ini biasanya mengadu rasa sakit teramat sangat apabila mereka mula memijak lantai selepas bangun tidur. Atau, beberapa langkah pertama selepas duduk dalam jangka masa yang lama. Rasa sakit ini berkurangan apabila melakukan aktiviti. Otot-otot labu betis terletak pada bahagian belakang kaki hingga ke tumit. Masalah ini boleh menjadi semakin serius dengan pelbagai aktiviti yang menyebabkan tekanan pada tendon. Biasanya ia dihadapi oleh atlet terutama pelari jarak jauh. Antara sebab berlakunya masalah ini ialah pemilihan kasut yang salah, kecederaan pada tendon dan kecacatan tulang tumit.
- Bunion Bengkak pada sendi antara ibu jari kaki dan tulang metatarsal pertama. Benjolan yang timbul ini menyebabkan ibu jari kaki tertolak ke jari kaki yang lain. Bagaimanapun, masalah yang paling kerap dialami oleh hampir kebanyakan wanita ini disebabkan pemakaian kasut yang ketat. Selain itu, ia juga disebabkan radang sendi dan kelainan pada fungsi kaki. Antara gejalanya ialah radang, pembengkakan dan kesakitan pada sisi permukaan ibu jari.
- Kematu Pembentukan sel-sel kulit mati yang mengeras dan menebal pada tapak kaki. Ia berlaku sebagai satu tindak balas bagi melindungi kaki akibat tekanan yang berlebihan dan geselan.
Kematu, biasanya terbentuk pada tumit, benjolan tapak kaki atau bahagian bawah ibu jari kaki. Masalah ini biasanya disebabkan pemakaian kasut bertumit tinggi, kasut terlalu kecil, obesiti dan cara seseorang itu berjalan. Selain itu, tapak kaki yang rata, atau lengkungan tapak kaki terlalu dalam dan kehilangan lemak-lemak pada bawah tapak kaki juga punca seseorang itu menghidap kematu.
- Belulang Seperti kematu, belulang terjadi akibat pengumpulan sel-sel kulit mati pada kaki. Ia akan menebal dan lama-kelamaan menjadi keras. Ia terbentuk pada bahagian atas sisi dan hujung jari. Amat menyakitkan dan boleh menjadi radang jika ia sering tergesel dengan kasut yang dipakai. Belulang disebabkan oleh pemakaian kasut yang ketat, kasut tumit tinggi, sarung kaki dan stoking yang terlalu ketat atau kecacatan pada jari kaki.
- Tapak kaki rata Ia merupakan masalah biomekanikal yang berlaku semasa seseorang berjalan. Pergerakan semasa berjalan boleh menyebabkan tekanan yang ekstrem atau radang pada tapak kaki. Mereka yang mengalami masalah ini tidak merasai ketidakselesaannya pada masa yang sama atau langsung tidak merasainya. Tetapi, apabila gejalanya mula timbul dan rasa sakit, cara berjalannya pelik.
- Sakit tumit Gejalanya dialami pada awal pagi atau selepas berehat dalam jangka masa yang lama. Ia juga antara masalah yang paling kerap ditemui. Ini kerana seluruh berat badan terpaksa diampu pada tumit. Lama-kelamaan, keadaan ini menyebabkan tekanan pada bahagian tersebut dan ketidakselesaan yang amat sangat. Dua jenis masalah tumit ini ialah, sindrom sakit tumit dan plantar fasciitis. Sindrom sakit tumit berpunca daripada tumit kasut yang terlalu rendah, pelapik pada tumit kasut yang rosak atau peningkatan aktiviti secara tiba-tiba. Manakala, plantar fasciitis disebabkan oleh tapak kaki rata. Apabila ia rata, kaki akan meregang dan menyebabkan timbulnya rasa sakit pada tapak kaki dan lengkungan tapak kaki.
- Metatarsalgia Kesakitan nyeri yang dirasai pada tulang-tulang metatarsal iaitu pada bahagian bawah tapak kaki berhampiran jari kaki. Masalah yang juga paling kerap ditemui ini boleh menjejaskan sendi-sendi dan tulang-tulang pada bahagian tersebut. Kasut yang tidak sesuai atau kasut yang ketat menyebabkan bahagian ini tertekan. Ia menyebabkan seseorang tidak boleh berjalan dengan normal. Sekali gus, menyebabkan kesukaran ketika berjalan kerana rasa tidak selesa pada bahagian tersebut. Selain itu, pemakaian kasut tumit terlalu tinggi, atau mereka yang menyertai aktiviti lasak tanpa menggunakan kasut yang sesuai juga boleh menekan bahagian ini. Peningkatan usia yang menyebabkan lapisan lemak pada bahagian tapak kaki menipis, juga menyebabkan kita lebih mudah rasa sakit pada bahagian tersebut.
- Plantar fasciitis Radang yang disebabkan regangan pada bahagian bawah tapak kaki. Regangan secara keterlaluan, menyebabkan rasa sakit pada tumit, lengkungan tapak kaki dan tumit.
Biasanya, regangan yang boleh menyebabkan radang dan rasa tidak selesa ini berlaku kerana:
- Tapak kaki rata - Lengkungan tengah tapak kaki yang dalam - Peningkatan aktiviti fizikal secara tiba-tiba - Kehamilan atau berat badan berlebihan hingga membebankan kaki - Pemakaian kasut yang tidak begitu sesuai.

  Otak hanyalah aktiviti-aktiviti bio-elektrik yang melibatkan sekumpulan saraf yang dipertanggungjawabkan untuk melakukan tugas-tugas tertentu bagi membolehkan ia berfungsi dengan sempurna. Setiap hari 14 juta saraf yang membentuk otak ini berinteraksi dengan 16 juta saraf tubuh yang lain. Semua aktiviti yang kita lakukan dan kefahaman atau ilmu yang kita peroleh adalah natijah daripada aliran interaksi bio-elektrik yang tidak terbatas.
Oleh itu, apabila seorang itu berzikir dengan mengulangi kalimat-kalimat Allah, seperti Subhanallah, beberapa kawasan otak yang terlibat menjadi aktif. Ini menyebabkan berlakunya satu aliran bio-elektrik di kawasan-kawasan saraf otak tersebut. Apabila zikir disebut berulang-ulang kali, aktiviti saraf ini menjadi bertambah aktif dan turut menambah tenaga bio-elektrik. Lama-kelamaan kumpulan saraf yang sangat aktif ini mempengaruhi kumpulan saraf yang lain untuk turut sama aktif. Dengan itu, otak menjadi aktif secara keseluruhan. Otak mula memahami perkara baru, melihat dari sudut perspektif berbeza dan semakin kreatif dan kritis, sedang sebelum berzikir otak tidak begini. Otak yang segar dan cergas secara tidak langsung mempengaruhi hati untuk melakukan kebaikan dan menerima kebenaran.
Hasil kajian makmal yang dilakukan terhadap subjek ini dimuatkan dalam majalah Scientific American, keluaran Disember 1993. satu kajian yang dilakukan di Universiti Washington dan ujian ini dilakukan melalui ujian imbasan PET yang mengukur kadar aktiviti otak manusia secara tidak sedar. Dalam kajian ini, sukarelawan diberikan satu senarai perkataan benda. Mereka dikehendaki membaca setiap perkataan tersebut satu persatu dan mengaitkan perkataan-perkataan dengan kata kerja yang berkaitan. Apabila sukarelawan melakukan tugas mereka, beberapa bahagian berbeza otak mempamerkan peningkatan aktiviti saraf, termasuk di bahagian depan otak dan korteks.
Menariknya, apabila sukarelawan ini mengulangi senarai perkataan yang sama berulang-ulang kali, aktiviti saraf otak merebak pada kawasan lain dan mengaktifkan kawasan saraf lain. Apabila senarai perkataan baru diberikan kepada mereka, aktiviti saraf kembali meningkat di kawasan pertama. Ini sekali gus membuktikan secara saintifik bahawa perkataan yang diulang-ulang seperti perbuatan berzikir, terbukti meningkatkan kecergasan otak dan menambah kemampuannya.
Oleh itu, saudara-saudara ku seIslam, ketika saintis Barat baru menemui mukjizat ini, kita umat terpilih ini telah lama mengamalkannya dan menerima manfaatnya. Malang bagi mereka yang masih memandang enteng kepentingan berzikir dan mengabaikannya.

Women and heart attacks (Myocardial Infarction)
Did you know that women rarely have the same dramatic symptoms that men have when experiencing heart attack...you know, the sudden stabbing pain in the chest, the cold sweat, grabbing the chest and dropping to the floor that we see in the movies. Here is the story of one woman's experience with a heart attack.

'I had a completely unexpected heart attack at about 10:30 PM with NO prior exertion, NO prior emotional trauma that one would suspect might've brought it on. I was sitting all snugly and warm on a cold evening, with my purring cat in my lap, reading an interesting story my friend had sent me, and actually thinking, 'A-h, this is the life, all cozy and warm in my soft, cushy Lazy Boy with my feet propped up.'
A moment later, I felt that awful sensation of indigestion, when yo! u've been in a hurry and grabbed a bite of sandwich and washed it down with a dash of water, and that hurried bite seems to feel like you've swallowed a golf ball going down the esophagus in slow motion and it is most uncomfortable.
You realize you shouldn't have gulped it down so fast and needed to chew it more thoroughly and this time drink a glass of water to hasten its progress down to the stomach.
This was my initial sensation---the only trouble was that I hadn't taken a bite of anything since about 5:00 PM.
'After that had seemed to subside, the next sensation was like little squeezing motions that seemed to be racing up my SPINE (hind-sight, it was probably my aorta in spasm), gaining speed as they continued racing up and under my sternum (breast bone, where one presses rhythmically when admin! istering CPR). This fascinating process continued on into my throat and branched out into both jaws.
'AHA!! NOW I stopped puzzling about what was happening--we all have read and/or heard about pain in the jaws being one of the signals of an MI happening, haven't we? I said aloud to myself and the cat, 'Dear God, I think I'm having a heart attack! 'I lowered the foot rest, dumping the cat from my lap, started to take a step and fell on the floor instead.
I thought to myself 'If this is a heart attack, I shouldn't be walking into the next room where the phone is or anywhere else......but, on the other hand, if I don't, nobody will know that I need help, and if I wait any longer I may not be able to get up in moment'
I pulled myself up with the arms of the chair, walked slowly into the next room and dia! led the Paramedics... I told her I thought I was having a heart attack due to the pressure building under the sternum and radiating into my jaws. I didn't feel hysterical or afraid, just stating the facts. She said she was sending the Paramedics over immediately, asked if the front door was near to me, and if so, to unbolt the door and then lie down on the floor where they could see me when they came in.
'I then laid down on the floor as instructed and lost consciousness, as I don't remember the medics coming in, their examination, lifting me onto a gurney or getting me into their ambulance, or hearing the call they made to St. Jude ER on the way, but I did briefly awaken when we arrived and saw that the Cardiologist was already there in his surgical blues and cap, helping the medics pull my stretcher out of the ambulance. He was bending over me asking questions (probably something like 'Have you taken any medications?') but I couldn't make my mind interpret what he wa! s saying, or form an answer, and nodded off again, not waking up until the Cardiologist and partner had already threaded the teeny angiogram balloon up my femoral artery into the aorta and into my heart where they installed two side by side stints to hold open my right coronary artery.
' I know it sounds like all my thinking and actions at home must have taken at least 20-30 minutes before calling the Paramedics, but actually it took perhaps 4-5 minutes before the call, and both the fire station and St. Jude are only minutes away from my home, and my Cardiologist was already to go to the OR in his scrubs and get going on restarting my heart (which had stopped somewhere between my arrival and the procedure) and installing the stints.
'Why have I written all of this to you with so much detail? Because I want all of you who are so important in my life to know what I learned first hand.'
1. Be aware that something very different is happening in your own bod! y not the usual men's symptoms, but inexplicable things happening (until my sternum and jaws got into the act). It is said that many more women than men die of their first (and last) MI because they didn't know they were having one, and commonly mistake it as indigestion, take some Maalox or other anti-heartburn preparation, and go to bed, hoping they'll feel better in the morning when they wake up....which doesn't happen. My female friends, your symptoms might not be exactly like mine, so I advise you to call the Paramedics if ANYTHING is unpleasantly happening that you've not felt before. It is better to have a 'false alarm' visitation than to risk your life guessing what it might be!
2. Note that I said 'Call the Paramedics'. Ladies, TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE! Do NOT try to drive yourself to the ER--you're a hazard to others on the road, and so is your panicked husband who will be speeding and looking anxiously at wha! t's happening with you instead of the road. Do NOT call your doctor--he doesn't know where you live and if it's at night you won't reach him anyway, and if it's daytime, his assistants (or answering service) will tell you to call the Paramedics. He doesn't carry the equipment in his car that you need to be saved! The Paramedics do, principally OXYGEN that you need ASAP. Your Dr. will be notified later.
3. Don't assume it couldn't be a heart attack because you have a normal cholesterol count. Research has discovered that a cholesterol elevated reading is rarely the cause of an MI (unless it's unbelievably high, and/or accompanied by high blood pressure.) MI's are usually caused by long-term stress and inflammation in the body, which dumps all sorts of deadly hormones into your system to sludge things up in there. Pain in the jaw can wake you from a sound sleep.. L! et's be careful and be aware. The more we know the better chance we could survive...
A cardiologist says if everyone who gets this mail sends it to 10 people, you can be sure that we'll save at least one life.

- DIPHTHERIA Use pure lemon juice every hour as a gargle and swallow some until it cuts loose the false membrane in the throat.

  Spanish researchers suggest that including olive oil in your diet may also offer benefits in terms of colon cancer prevention (5). Their study results showed that rats fed diet supplemented with olive oil had a lower risk of colon cancer than those fed safflower oil-supplemented diets. In fact, the rats that received olive oil had colon cancer rates almost as low as those fed fish oil, which several studies have already linked to a reduction in colon cancer risk.
  Judy Shils started the Marin Cancer Project in April of 2002 after attending a meeting where county leadership announced that breast cancer rates in Marin County, California had risen 60 percent in eight years. At the meeting, announcements were made that funds didn’t exist to do the necessary studies that would uncover the cancer’s cause. As Shils watched one of her close friends struggle to overcome breast cancer, she believed it was her responsibility to take care of the problem. In November 2002, after mobilizing more than 2,000 volunteers, the Marin County Cancer Project surveyed 65,000 households and raised $150,000 dollars to map out the cause of cancer rates in each Marin County city and town.
After two years of research, the project has published the following list of 15 chemicals found in everyday personal care products such as cosmetics, perfumes, shampoos, conditioners, soaps, lotions, and shaving creams that are toxic, in order to educate the public about the possible health concerns for each.
1. Butyl Acetate
Function: This chemical is a solvent that prevents chipping. Product types: nail polishes and treatments such as strengtheners, hardeners and base coats. Health concerns: Continuous use of products with this chemical cause dry, cracked skin, and the vapors induce drowsiness and dizziness. 2. Butylated Hydroxytoluene
Function: As an anti-oxidant, this product slows the amount of time it takes for products to change color. Product types: lip makeup, moisturizer, eye makeup, anti-aging treatment, foundation, fragrance, bar soap, shaving products, anti-perspirant/deodorant, concealer, sunscreen, facial cleanser, body wash, blush, shampoo, conditioner, acne treatment, body lotion/oil, powder, makeup remover, depilatory cream, toothpaste, styling product, exfoliator, and nail treatments. Health concerns: Eye and skin irritant. 3. Coal Tar

Product Types: shampoo, body wash/cleansers, bath oils, facial cleanser, liquid hand soap, bar soap, acne treatment, baby wash, shaving products, body scrubs, foot odor/cream/treatment, deodorant, moisturizer, and hair dye/spray. Health Concerns: This chemical may be infected with impurities connected with certain types of cancers. After absorption through the skin, it can create carcinogenic compounds called nitrosamines. Insufficient toxicity data is available to determine the safety of the product when inhaled. 5. Diazolidinyl Urea
Function: This chemical releases formaldehyde and acts as a preservative. Function: This chemical acts as a disinfectant, germicide, fungicide, and preservative. Product Types: deodorants, nail polish, soap, shampoo, and shaving products. Health Concerns: This is considered a possible human carcinogen, may trigger asthma, irritates eyes and the upper respiratory tract, can damage DNA, and is banned by the European Union. 8. Parabens (methyl, ethyl, propyl and butyl) Function: These are a large group of chemicals used as preservatives in cosmetics to prevent bacteria, yeast, and mold formations in products such as toothpaste. Product Types: moisturizers, shampoos, conditioners, hair styling gels, nail creams, foundations, facial masks, skin creams, deodorants, and baby lotions. Health Concerns: This chemical may impair fertility; alter hormone levels; increase risks for certain types of cancers; alter reproductive development, cause skin irritation, rashes, and allergic reactions; and some studies have found parabens in breast tumors. 9. Propylene Glycol
Function: This chemical acts as a penetration enhancer and keeps products from melting in high heat or freezing when it is cold. Product Types: shampoo/conditioner, bar soap, body wash, face cleanser, liquid hand soap, acne treatment, hair dye, shaving products, moisturizer, makeup remover, toothpaste, sunscreen, perfume, cologne, deodorant, toner/astringent, foundation, bronzer powder, nail polish, lip products, eye shadow/pencil, and mascara. Health Concerns: This chemical alters the structure of the skin by allowing chemicals to penetrate deep beneath it while increasing their ability to reach the blood stream. It can also be a skin irritant and cause allergic reactions. 10. Phthalates Function: These are industrial chemicals used as solvents and plasticizers in cosmetics. Product Types: nail polish, deodorant, fragrance, hair spray, hair gel/mousse, and lotions. Health Concerns: Phthalates can damage the liver, kidneys, and lungs and acts as a reproductive toxin in males. 11. Triethanolamine

Health Concerns: This chemical can form carcinogenic nitrosamine compounds (these are compounds formed when nitrates react with anime, a natural chemical found in food and in the body) that creates one of the most potent cancer-causing agents. Based on limited data, it has been shown to cause cancer in humans. 12. Talc Function: Talc is designed to absorb moisture. Product Types: blush, powder eye shadow, perfumed powder, baby powder, deodorant, and soap. Health Concerns: Talc is a proven carcinogen and is linked to ovarian cancer. The chemical has particles similar to asbestos and data suggests that it can cause lung tumors. 13. Toluene
Function: This is used as a solvent that improves adhesion and gloss. Product Types: nail polish and hair dyes. Health Concerns: This product is a possible reproductive and developmental toxin that reduces the chance for a healthy, full-term pregnancy while decreasing fertility. Although there is limited data, it may also cause cancer. It also contains possible gastrointestinal, liver, kidney, and blood toxins. HEMOROID atau lebih sinonim sebagai buasir di kalangan masyarakat tempatan merupakan keadaan bengkak dan inflamasi di pembuluh darah serta tisu di sekeliling bahagian anus (dubur) dan bahagian penghujung rektum (bahagian akhir usus besar). Ia terjadi apabila pesakit meneran ketika me! mbuang air besar atau berlakunya tekanan yang berterusan ke atas pembuluh-pembuluh darah di bahagian tersebut sewaktu pesakit mengandung. Walaupun topik ini agak jarang dibincangkan, buasir merupakan satu penyakit yang biasa dialami oleh ramai orang. Terdapat lebih kurang separuh daripada orang dewasa yang berumur sekitar 50-an mengalami rasa gatal-gatal, pendarahan dan kesakitan di bahagian anus yang merupakan tanda-tanda awal buasir akan berlaku. Walau bagaimanapun, terdapat beberapa kaedah dan pengubatan yang boleh merawat penyakit ini. Dalam kebanyakan kes, keadaan ini hanya memerlukan penjagaan kebersihan diri dan beberapa perubahan dalam cara kehidupan terutaman dari segi pemakanan. Jenis, tanda dan simptom berlakunya buasir bergantung pada kawasan sekitar anus di mana buasir itu terjadi. Menurut Pakar Bedah, ColumbiaAsia Medical Centre, Seremban, Negeri Sembilan, Dr. Abd. Hamid Mat Sain, seseorang itu tidak boleh melihat atau berasa buasir bahagian dalaman tetapi apabila meneran sewaktu membuang air besar, permukaan buasir yang lembut akan tercedera dan mengakibatkannya berdarah. ‘‘Anda mungkin akan terlihat beberapa titik darah merah pada tisu tandas atau dalam mangkuk tandas. Disebabkan membran anus dalaman tidak mempunyai saraf fiber yang peka terhadap rasa sakit, pesakit jarang mengalami rasa tidak selesa atau kesakitan. “Tetapi, anda mungkin mengalami rasa ‘penuh’ di dalam rektum selepas membuang air besar. Ada ketikanya, apabila meneran, ia akan menolak keluar buasir dalaman melalui pembukaan di anus. Jika buasir itu prolaps (atau terkeluar dari kedudukan asalnya), pesakit akan berasa sakit dan tidak selesa,” katanya. Sementara itu, bagi pesakit yang mengalami buasir luaran pula, mereka akan mengalami rasa sakit. Kadangkala, darah yang terkumpul di dalam buasir luaran ini akan membeku (trombus) dan mendatangkan rasa sakit yang keterlaluan, pembengkakan dan inflamasi. Apabila iritasi berlaku, buasir luaran boleh mengakibatkan pesakit mengalami kegatalan atau perdarahan. Punca-punca Buasir boleh berlaku apabila terdapat sebarang tekanan yang berterusan di dalam pembuluh darah di bahagian bawah rektum. Punca-punca tekanan berlaku adalah: * Pesakit mengalami sembelit dan regangan yang berlaku sewaktu sembelit. Gejala ini boleh berlaku akibat tumor di bahagian rektum. Oleh itu, buasir dalam keadaan ini hanyalah masalah luaran sahaja sedangkan masalah asal ialah tumor di dalam rektum. * Pesakit mengalami cirit-birit dan pengeluaran najis cair secara berterusan. Bagi mereka yang berpotensi untuk terjadi buasir, kerapkali merasakan gejala buasir ini sewaktu mengalami keracunan makanan yang menyebabkan cirit-birit selama beberapa hari. * Pesakit berada dalam keadaan duduk atau berdiri dalam jangka masa yang lama. Contohnya, para penunggang motosikal jarak jauh, pemandu teksi, lori dan bas, pekerja pejabat dan juga, mereka yang harus berdiri lama di dalam pekerjaan seharian seperti guru dan sebagainya. * Pesakit yang mengalami obesiti. * Pesakit terpaksa mengangkat objek yang berat. * Pesakit yang mengandung dan melahirkan anak. Buasir juga boleh diwarisi. Namun begitu faktor-faktor yang tersebut di atas perlu wujud untuk terjadinya buasir. Faktor keturunan hanya menjadikan seseorang itu lebih berpotensi untuk menghidapi buasir berbanding orang lain tetapi tidak bermakna mereka pasti akan menghidap buasir. Ujian saringan Dr. Abd. Hamid berkata, secara amnya, anda perlu berjumpa doktor sekiranya buasir yang dialami tidak pulih melalui penjagaan kebersihan diri, mengakibatkan rasa sakit atau berlaku pendarahan secara berlebihan. “Tetapi sekiranya masalah berterusan walaupun telah mendapat rawatan awal dengan ubat-ubatan daripada doktor di klinik, maka pesakit haruslah mendapatkan rundingan pakar bedah. “Tanda yang paling ketara seseorang itu mengalami buasir dalaman ialah berlakunya pendarahan di bahagian anus sewaktu membuang air besar. “Namun, pendarahan rektal boleh berlaku atas sebab lain. Oleh itu, pesakit dinasihatkan berjumpa dengan doktor untuk memastikan ia tidak berpunca daripada sebarang penyakit yang lebih serius seperti kanser kolorektal,” ujar beliau. Jika pada peringkat awal buasir terdapat perubahan yang ketara apabila anda membuang air besar atau jika najis berwarna hitam, merah pekat atau seakan tar, silalah berjumpa dengan doktor pakar dengan segera. Warna najis yang sedemikian menunjukkan pendarahan telah berlaku di bahagian lain dalam salur pencernaan anda. Anda juga dinasihat untuk mendapatkan penjagaan kecemasan sekiranya terlihat pendarahan yang banyak pada anus, rasa pening-pening atau pitam. Doktor juga boleh menentukan jika anda mengalami buasir luaran hanya dengan melihat bahagian buasir itu. “Untuk buasir dalaman, doktor mungkin ingin menjalankan pemeriksaan dengan menggunakan jari yang bersarung getah atau Digital Rectal Examination (DRE). Tetapi, teknik pemeriksaan ini bukanlah muktamad kerana kadangkala buasir dalaman terlalu lembut untuk dikesan melalui pemeriksaan rektal. “Dalam kes ini, doktor anda mungkin ingin memeriksa bahagian bawah kolon dan rektum dengan anaskop, protoskop atau sigmoidoskop,” jelas Dr. Abd. Hamid. Tambah beliau, kadangkala, pemeriksaan yang lebih ekstensif termasuk pemeriksaan keseluruhan kolon dan rektum menggunakan kolonoskopi fiber optik yang anjal untuk mengesan pendarahan pada lesi di bahagian rektum atau mana bahagian kolon yang harus dilakukan. Jika anda mengalami kesakitan atau perdarahan buasir yang kerap, doktor mungkin mencadangkan: * Banding Haemorrhoids. Doktor akan meletakkan satu atau dua gelung getah di pangkal buasir dalaman untuk menyekat peredaran darah dan buasir itu akan terjatuh dalam jangka masa tertentu.
